Rising Sun Country Park

Area: Wallsend / Benton

Distance: A flat circular route of around 1.5–2 miles to the community farm and back, with longer woodland and pond-side options for a fuller walk.

Terrain: Flat throughout, with some small loose pebbles in places — manageable for pushchairs and less confident walkers. A separate path circles Swallow Pond, and a steeper option climbs the old pit heap for wider views if your dog (and you) want more of a workout.

Dog notes: Dogs are welcome throughout the park, but must be kept on lead around the community farm, where you’ll encounter horses, donkeys, Shetland ponies, goats, sheep, geese, chickens and calves at close quarters.

Parking: Large, free car park by the visitor centre, just off the road before Asda Benton (postcode NE12 9SS for sat-nav). Disabled parking is available on site, and it’s an easy walk from the Asda Benton bus stop if you don’t drive.

Nearby stop: No on-site café confirmed at time of writing — Asda Benton is a two-minute walk from the car park if you need supplies before or after.
