Area: Tynemouth / Cullercoats
Distance: Around 2.5 miles one-way (5 miles there and back) along the promenade and beach.
Terrain: Flat, well-surfaced promenade the whole way, with the option to drop onto firm sand at low tide. No hills, buggy and wheelchair friendly.
Dog notes: Tynemouth Priory allows dogs on leads year-round, and dogs are welcome at Tynemouth Market on weekends. However, King Edward’s Bay and the southern end of Tynemouth Longsands have seasonal dog restrictions during the summer months — only the northern (top) end of Longsands stays open to dogs then. Always check current signage at the beach entrance, as restriction dates can shift year to year.
Parking: Grand Parade car park or the Longsands car park at the north end of the beach; on-street parking around Front Street, Tynemouth (pay & display).
Nearby stop: The Gibraltar Rock, right on the front overlooking the Priory and King Edward’s Bay, is dog-friendly inside (some areas) and in its beer garden. For a coffee stop with a view, The View on Longsands has a dog-friendly terrace with mini beach huts (dogs aren’t allowed inside).
